• Tenders are invited for Recruitment of a Market Study Specialist for the Implementation of GACs Community Soap Production Initiative IFC Technical Assistance and Advisory Services. Publication Date: 11-Feb-2022 Expression of Interest Deadline: 16-Feb-2022 Assignment Description I) Background The International Finance Corporation (IFC), in collaboration with GAC, is implementing a Technical Assistance and Advisory Services program (or the "Program") to support the GAC mining project and better manage operational and social risks and improve relations with communities including local Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) development and local livelihoods in the Boke region. As part of the GAC COVID-19 response plan, IFC successfully supported the development of livelihoods by building the technical capacity of community soap producers with a focus on women. This assistance included a training of trainers on the production of antibacterial soap including scented soap for six (6) cooperatives from the communes of Sangarédi and Tanene. The support also included a diagnostic and provision of required input and equipment and additional training sessions in villages hosting targeted cooperatives reaching over 229 cooperative members. GAC and IFC agreed to further support and extend the capacity building activity to nine (9) soap making cooperatives to increase the quality of soap produced in GACs concession and therefore enable the purchase of local soap by GAC and other mining projects in Boke. This phase II capacity building included an image box training highlighting safe methods of soap production from a Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) standpoint. It touched upon sanitary methods of production and storage, and the importance of dosage and measuring instruments. It also included a diagnostic of the cooperatives soap making methods from the evaluation of their protective equipment used, assessment of soap making and storage conditions, assessment of input supply issues to laboratory analyses of the quality of the soaps produced by the cooperatives pre and post training. Before moving to phase III in providing business management training & coaching and giving soap making production equipment to cooperatives, the market potential needs to be assessed for better visibility in determining the strategy of the cooperatives potentially merging into one and their capacity to yield optimal returns. For this purpose, the IFC advisory program is seeking to recruit a consultant to conduct a micro level market study in the Boke region to assess the profitability and the different selling price points of different types of soaps produced by each of the cooperatives. The consultant will develop a commercial approach for the soap locally produced
